Project Details:
The proposal celebrates Donegal's rich geological heritage through the creation of a simple circular stone feature at the summit of Cnoc Unna, providing a distinctive destination and resting place for walkers. Constructed using locally sourced stone and crafted by local stonemasons, the design incorporates engraved stone markers identifying key landmarks visible from the viewpoint, strengthening visitors' connection to the surrounding landscape. Natural boulders provide informal seating and blend the feature into its setting, while existing vegetation is retained wherever possible to minimise environmental impact. Combined with improved walking routes and interpretive elements, the project enhances accessibility, celebrates local identity and craftsmanship, and creates an iconic landscape destination that supports recreation, education, and sustainable tourism.
